Nitric oxide and pregnancy.

چکیده
This review will consider whether nitric oxide (NO) contributes to maternal systemic vasodilation during pregnancy, regulates uterine and fetoplacental blood flow, and is involved in uterine quiescence prior to parturition. Also, whether a deficiency of NO contributes to the hypertensive disorder of pregnancy, preeclampsia, will be considered. The biosynthesis of NO increases in gravid rats and sheep, but the status in normal human pregnancy and preeclampsia is controversial. NO contributes to maternal systemic vasodilation and reduced vascular reactivity during normal pregnancy; however, the relative contribution of NO is variable depending on the animal species, vascular bed, and vessel size. Impaired relaxation responses to acetylcholine, but not bradykinin or NO donors, are observed in small arteries from women with preeclampsia, suggesting a receptor or signal transduction defect, although NO may play little, if any, role here. Uterine arteries have increased endothelial nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity, protein expression, and guanosine 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate production during pregnancy; however, whether these mediate uterine vasodilation during pregnancy remains to be established. NOS is expressed in the human placental syncytiotrophoblast and in the fetoplacental and umbilical vascular endothelium where basal production of NO contributes to low fetoplacental vascular resistance. Controversy exists over the status of placental NOS in preeclampsia, although an abnormality of umbilical NOS activity is likely. Finally, the uterus has NOS activity, which decreases at the end of gestation, and exogenous NO relaxes the myometrium, but whether endogenous NO contributes to uterine quiescence during pregnancy has yet to be confirmed.

Association of Dietary Patterns during Pregnancy and Cord Blood Nitric Oxide Level with Birth Weight of Newborns
Background: Maternal nutrition during pregnancy affects the birth weight of neonates. Some of the undesirable pregnancy outcomes are linked to lower birth weights. This study aimed to assess the relationship between maternal dietary patterns, weight gain during pregnancy and nitric oxide (NO), as an endothelial relaxing factor, and the possible effects on birth weight.Materials and Methods: At ...
متن کاملP-142: Effects of Main Substrate of Nitric Oxide in The First Half of Pregnancy onTestis in Mice Embryos and Off spring
Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is an important molecular regulator in biology of reproductive systems. In addition, critical level of NO is essential for Implantation and embryo’s development. However, increased levels of NO can have a wide range of adverse effects. This molecule is synthesized from L-Arginine (L.A) by Nitric oxide Synthetase (NOS) activity. In the current study, the effects of ...

Background and Objective: Preeclampsia is one of the most common complications during pregnancy that occurs after 20th weeks of pregnancy in women with normal blood pressure. The pathophysiology of this disease is unknown. Due to changes in serum level of nitric oxide in women with preeclampsia and also the important role of mesenchymal stem cells in the secretion of nitric oxide as an...
متن کاملNitric oxide-mediated vasodilation in human pregnancy.
The maternal circulation vasodilates during pregnancy. We investigated the contribution of nitric oxide to this vasodilatation. Using venous occlusion plethysmography, we measured the effect of nitric oxide synthase inhibition on hand blood flow during human pregnancy. We compared the response to a brachial artery infusion of the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor N(G)-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMM...

Pregnancy in diabetic females causes delay in early stages of embryonic growth and development and higher incidence of congenital malformations and spontaneous miscarriage compared with those of non-diabetic conditions. High glucosis tratogenicity seems to be related to reduction of Nitric Oxide production (NO) in hyperglycemic condition. The goal of present work wa...
متن کاملInducible nitric oxide synthase inhibition attenuates renal hemodynamics during pregnancy.
Acute, nonselective nitric oxide synthase inhibition in the pregnant rat decreases glomerular filtration rate and renal plasma flow, suggesting a role for nitric oxide in mediating renal vasodilation during pregnancy. As mid-gestation in the rat is associated with a significant increase in renal protein expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, the aim of this study was to examine the role...
